Are you starting to have ski dreams? The temperatures are starting to drop and the snow is starting to fall. Hard NOT to be excited about the upcoming Nordic season! However, a bit of patience will be required, as we wait for Mother Nature to blanket our world in snow.
So while we wait for the snow and Rollo to groom our trails … I thought we might spend this time trying to awaken our “inner Nord” by trying out some Viking style food and drink recipes.
Could be fun to learn how to eat like a Viking!
Vikings enjoyed a pretty basic diet consisting of fish, meat, cereals, root vegetables, legumes, fruit, berries and wild honey. The menu would vary, depending on the ingredients available in the location that was being conquered at the time. The most perfect Viking food is dried fish. It keeps well and was an excellent source of protein and fat. Providing the energy needed to pillage! Vikings loved celebratory feasts. Lots of food and lots of drink. They were often referred to as gluttonous. Vikings brewed beer and made a fermented honey wine called mead. Sounds like a great way to wash down a hearty Viking meal. Skol! (Cheers!)
